Benefits cap explained

Housing benefit cap: can you live on 62p a day? | Tim Leunig HERE

This explains some of the criticisms of the benefits cap better than I did today.

Basically critics say the cap takes no account of whether you work or not or the family size. So a working family worth children who claim over £26k may stand to lose out whereas an unemployed who do not receive child benefit may still gain up to £26k on housing alone.

LDs want child benefit to be excluded from the 26k limit.

Labour are in favour of a cap but not the way the coalition want to bring it in
